Lameness and Footcare

The knock-on effects of lameness on your farm include loss of production, loss of animals, and reduced fertility. We believe that regular corrective footcare plays a vital role in reducing lameness, thus benefiting both welfare and profit margins.

Foot Trimming

We work closely with foot trimmers in the area to spot problems early and ensure the maintain of healthy feet which have a major impact on mastitis and productivity.

Troubleshooting

We are skilled in the investigation, prevention and control of lameness problems on dairy units. An investigation includes a whole farm approach, with discussion of nutrition, environmental factors, routine foot care and the treatment of lame cows.

We are experienced in the treatment and control of digital dermatitis and are able to advise on the most appropriate options available to limit the spread of this disease in your herd. We can also advise on the impact of environmental factors

on lameness such as the quality of cow tracks to access summer grazing.

Monitoring and Management

Following an in depth farm investigation we will develop an action plan with you to both reduce lameness incidence, and ensure the rapid and effective treatment of problems that occur. Regular locomotion scoring enables us to monitor progress and assess the efficacy of control policies that have been put into place.

In an emergency please telephone (01793) 522483 (24hrs).
