We run a series of training courses that are supported by the National Dairy Academy. The courses use a combination of teaching techniques including power point presentations, workshops, interactive quizzes and practical sessions. They are generally seminar based and for groups of 12-15 people, creating a relaxed learning environment.
Courses running at regular intervals include:
-
Calving Cows
-
Lameness and Footcare
-
Dairy Cow Nutrition
-
Cell Count Control
-
Cattle Fertility
-
Small Holders
Most courses are one day sessions but some, such as the lameness and footcare, and small holders courses have a second day of practical workshops. These courses are usually held at a location central to the practice area. However if a group of farmers would like to attend a course within a specific locality then we are happy to oblige if a suitable venue is provided. We are involved with the MDC "£1000 pounds for 1000 cows" scheme which farmer groups are using to fund training course attendance.
Farmers Meetings
We regularly hold farmer’s meetings to discuss current issues. Recent subjects have included fertility, BVD, peri-natal mortality in lambs and worm control in sheep.
Farmer Discussion Group
We have recently set-up a discussion group for farmers. Quarterly meetings are planned either for evening meetings or farm visits centred on current issues. If you would be interested in attending the next meeting then please contact the farm office.
In an emergency please telephone (01793) 522483 (24hrs).
